OUR STORY
The Hive was born from a simple but powerful idea: to create a welcoming, inspiring space where kids and teens in Coos Bay can explore their creativity, develop real-world skills, and build meaningful connections.
Why We Exist
Founded by local educator and entrepreneur Desireé Glenn Gaoiran, The Hive was born from her first business, Acting Up, which partnered with Coos Health & Wellness to bring after school programming focused on healthy communication to local youth.
Building on that foundation, The Hive expands the vision to empower young people through a broader range of arts, enterprise, and skilled trades.
What We Do
We are dedicated to nurturing the whole young person - creatively, socially, and entrepreneurially - with a focus on prevention and early support.
We believe in reaching kids before crisis hits, helping them build resilience, confidence, and a sense of purpose that can carry them forward.
At The Hive, we’re not just teaching skills - we’re reviving values that are in danger of being lost: work ethic, creativity, accountability, and pride in one’s craft.
We create pathways for talented artists, tradespeople, and entrepreneurs to pass down their knowledge to the next generation, preserving the wisdom and skills that strengthen a community.

We aim to inspire hope, show what’s possible, and remind young people that they can build a life they’re proud of - not just by dreaming, but by doing.
